The value of all American families

My newest opinion column is up at The Progressive.

Monday marks the 10th anniversary of the day Vermont instituted civil unions for same-sex couples. In the ensuing years, thousands of Americans have begun to hope that they and their children could become legally secure.

Today the hope remains, but the promise of security remains unfulfilled, and it is the children who suffer. More

Thursday Gay Reads: A post-pride bashing & the inadequacy of civil unions

One man's day of pride and celebration in Kansas City ended with a nasty beating and robbery. The man was jumped by four men and robbed.

The New York Times editorializes today on a Connecticut case and the inherent inadequacy of civil unions.
A law that allows civil unions but not marriage is preferable to denying benefits and recognition to same-sex couples. But no one should confuse it with equality.
