Ranting about taxes & being gay

By Diane Silver

In my latest Hope & Politics column, I mull over what April 15 means to a lesbian. (Can you say "rant?" Can you say "second-class citizenship?")

Well, now I'm confused again. I thought progressive/liberals liked taxes. Or is that only when rich, white, heterosexual males with jobs are paying them?

diane, you said: In my latest Hope & Politics column, I mull over what April 15 means to a lesbian.

i appreciate that, and i read your comments... but your choice of words for your blog post... well... i just hope you realize that tax day also affects gay men, transgendered couples, and others unable to marry as well.

that being said, i respect that you're a lesbian and are looking out for yourself.

just don't forget it affects the whole GLBT community!

keep fighting the fight and posting all the great words you have to say!

Mr. Jiggles - You're right, of course. Don't know why I said it the way I did in the blog post, when the newspaper column makes it clear that all LGBT folk are second-class citizens. Thanks for pointing that out!

Uncle - This is not about paying taxes, but it is about treating people fairly and equally and not turning some of us into second-class citizens.
