Lawrence launches the first domestic partner registry in Kansas in just 5 days

By Diane Silver

The Kansas Equality Coalition is planning an event at 10 a.m. on Aug. 1 to mark the start of the state's first registry.

This is a great day for the Sunflower State. It's only a small step, but any progress toward fairness is welcome in a state where same-sex couples face discrimination every day.

More details at Kansas Voice.

If you find hope in the weirdest places, you're welcome to see if you can find any at West Neanderthal Drive. Here's the link:

Hi Uncle Pavian.

What a fine looking primate you are! I don't usually allow links in comments, but from looking at your blog I can see that you appear to be part of the tiny Kansas blogosphere.

Although we seem to be on opposite sides on some political topics, it is also good to see another Kansan leaping into the fast-running waters of the bloggish river.

And who can fault someone who quotes the bard?

By the way, us fine Lawrencians are not silly at all. I do believe that most of us are downright sane. It is a joy to live in a town that believes in fairness and equality, not to mention living in a place with great music and a multitude of great places to eat.
