Kansas: Congratulations to Kim and Arla!

By Diane Silver

And now for some good news... Lawrence's own Kim Kreicker and Arla Jones, along with the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, will be honored tomorrow for their gay rights work.

The award is from the Lawrence Coalition for Peace and Justice, and will be given out at the coalition's annual awards ceremony, 7 p.m., Thursday, at Unity Church, Ninth Street and Madeline Lane.

Thanks for the posting, Diane! I wanted to clarify that the comment that makes it sound like Kim and I are taking credit for the domestic partnership work here in Kansas is a mis-quote. We never said that we were responsible for lobbying, etc. Not sure where Chad came up with that, but we're sorry it happened.

It's easy for reporters to misunderstand, particularly if they haven't been around for a long time. I appreciate the clarification, and I personally appreciate all you and Kim have done and continue to do. We are so lucky to have you here. New York's loss is very much Kansas' gain!
