U.S. Senate promised June vote on banning same-sex marriage

In a long story on a weekend conference of conservatives, The Washington Post reports that Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) promised to hold a vote on June 5 on a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. The state amendments like the one in Kansas that ban marriage are horrible. A federal amendment would be a complete disaster because it would bar the U.S. Supreme Court from ever over-turning the ban.

So far, there doesn't appear to be enough support in Congress to pass this, but we can't afford to ignore any vote of this type.

Get involved! Stop by the Human Rights Campaign's page on the vote.
