Kansas Attorney General declares domestic partner registry constitutional, but limits its scope

By Diane Silver

Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison has just issued an opinion, paving the way for the city of Lawrence to create a domestic partner registry.

If the City Commission passes the registry, it would make Lawrence the first city in Kansas to offer such a registry. I'm in the process of reading the opinion now, but the Lawrence Journal-World says it limits the registry to residents of Lawrence. As previously written, the proposed ordinance would have allowed couples from anywhere in Kansas to register.

More soon...
