Icelander becomes first out gay elected to lead a nation

Johanna Sigurdardottir leads her party to victory in Iceland. First appointed prime minister of the economically strapped country, she has now been elected to the post. Congratulations!

Lesbian given worst job

The news that financially desperate Iceland is getting an openly lesbian prime minister reminds me of The Onion's Nov. 5 headline: "Black Man Given Nation's Worst Job."

Meanwhile, Icelanders say they want 66-year-old Johanna Sigurdardottir to take over because she appears to have one important quality:

"It's a question of trust, people believe that she actually cares about people," said Olafur Hardarson, a political scientist at the University of Iceland.

Wow. What a revolutionary concept. Congratulations Johanna, and good luck. You'll need it.
