Kansas: The bell rings on Phill Kline vs. his own staff, round 437, on Monday at 3 p.m.

By Diane Silver

I'll admit that calling this "round 437" is a tad of an exaggeration, but the ongoing saga of Phill Kline's political resurrection and its aftermath sure seems to be lasting that long.

Next up is a hearing in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan. The purpose of said hearing is to determine if the employment rules apply to ole' Phill, or whether he is above, ah, the law.

In this case, the law consists of the rules and procedures for firing employees in Johnson County. Despite the fact that the county pays Kline's salary as the new DA, Kline is arguing that he is above county rules. The controversy surrounds Kline's firing of eight employees almost within minutes of taking over as county DA.

The employees are demanding that Kline actually fire them for cause and give them grievance hearings, as required by county rules

KC Buzz Blog has links to both Kline and the fired employees' filings here and here.
