Saga of the Rainbow Flag: Despite broken window & threats, hotel's flag is flying

Vandalism and threats didn't keep the owners of the Lakeway Hotel in tiny Meade, Kan., from hoisting a new rainbow flag outside their bed and breakfast on Friday afternoon.

The Hutchinson News reports that the owner of the inn in the town of 1,600 in far southwestern Kansas fixed the rope on his flag pole and hoisted the new rainbow banner.

Yesterday, we reported that someone threw a brick, or red block of some sort, through the window of the inn. The message "fag" was inked on the block that broke the window. The message "get the fuck out of town" was inked on a block found outside the hotel. For full details of the incident, see here. For the Kansas Equality Coalition statement on the incident, see here.

The Hutchinson News reports:
Loren Borger, chief of the Meade Police Department, said no arrests have been made but that police and the Meade County Sheriff's Department are investigating the incident. He suspects a local had a hand in the matter, which occurred sometime between 4:15 and 5:15 in the morning.
The Southwest Kansas Chapter of the Equality Coalition will be holding their regular monthly meeting at the Lakeway Hotel tomorrow. For details, see here.
