Answer: It’s just not important enough to be on their agenda. Apparently other things also fall into that “not important enough” category: the environment, alternate fuels, health care, etc., etc., etc. Our current leaders would rather scare us with the “threat of terrorism”. This is the same leadership that earlier this year cut back 1500 positions in the National Weather Service while at the same time increasing the number of positions in FEMA. Which agency performed better during Katrina? Which agency falls under the “Homeland Security” umbrella? We’re all familiar enough with our own budgets to know how money can and does slide from one category to another. As Nancy Moore said in an earlier blog --- Follow the money.
